Our review

“Team Fuqua” sounds like brochure copy until you watch admissions reject high scorers who read as lone wolves. The culture is enforced at the gate, and it produces the specific graduate big health systems and consulting firms keep ordering: collaborative, unpretentious, competent.

Health care is the moat. The HSM certificate, the Duke medical ecosystem, and two decades of alumni seeding pharma and payer leadership give Fuqua a vertical no rival owns. The 2025 employment report was honest about a tough year — 82.2% of seekers with offers at three months, median base down to $160,000 from a record $175,000 — and tech hiring found its footing late, per Poets&Quants’ read of the same data.

Durham helps and hurts: the Research Triangle keeps growing its own employer base, but national recruiting still means airports. Fuqua’s answer is a network famous for answering — the school’s cold-email reply culture rivals Tuck’s.

What impressed us

  • Health-care moat. The HSM program and Duke's medical ecosystem feed an owned vertical.
  • Enforced culture. Admissions screens for collaborators, and it shows.
  • Triangle tailwind. The local employer base grows every cycle.

What gave us pause

  • Soft 2025 print. 82.2% offers at three months trailed the peer set.
  • Airport recruiting. National employers still mean travel.

The verdict

First call for health care and life-science careers, and a top-tier general-management program with the most livable cost basis on the private side. The 2025 placement dip is worth watching, not fleeing.
