“The MBA that bet its future on professionals — and won the bet.”

Our review
Tippie made news years ago by shuttering its large full-time MBA cohort in favor of professional formats — a decision that looked like retreat and reads, in the current market, like foresight. The compact residential program that remains serves a class of about 50 with the personal economics only that scale allows.
Iowa’s insurance and financial-services corridor — Principal, Transamerica’s operations, a surprisingly deep actuarial economy — hires steadily, and in-state costs near $50,000 make the payback arithmetic almost trivial. This is a program for people optimizing outcomes per dollar, not logo recognition.
What impressed us
- Honest economics. About $50,000 in-state against $115,000 median pay.
- Insurance corridor. A steady, cycle-resistant hiring base.
What gave us pause
- Minimal scale. A 50-person class and matching recruiting menu.
- Brand quietness. Recognition fades beyond the region.
The verdict
A quietly excellent value for Midwest finance and insurance careers. Nobody buys Tippie for the brand heat, and nobody regrets the invoice.
