“Silicon Slopes' public option.”

Our review
The Wasatch Front’s tech economy, led by Qualtrics and a venture scene that outperforms its size, hires locally by preference, and Eccles is the public-school source. The Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute gives the campus one of the country’s most active student-venture ecosystems, including a residential startup dorm that other schools now copy.
Placement in the mid-80s, in-state costs under $60,000, and mountains twenty minutes from the classroom complete a quality-of-life pitch BYU can’t monopolize. The class runs small and the recruiting map runs Mountain West.
What impressed us
- Slopes access. Utah tech hires the local bench first.
- Lassonde engine. A student-venture ecosystem with national imitators.
What gave us pause
- Regional map. Placement concentrates along the Wasatch Front.
- Small cohort. 60 students, boutique recruiting.
The verdict
The non-LDS route into Silicon Slopes, with a genuine entrepreneurship engine and skiing on Fridays. Regional by design, happily so.
