Every thrift store shopper loves visiting The Salvation Army for great deals and bizarre knick knacks, but you may want to think twice about donating goods to their stores or giving monetary donations to Salvation Army bell ringers on the streets.
The Salvation Army is openly homophobic, preaching anti-gay messages on their website and even pouring money into lobbying efforts that attempted to exempt them from fair labor practices and allow them to discriminate against the LGBT community.
The Salvation Army is so homophobic that, in 2004, the company threatened to close NYC soup kitchens if they were forced to hand out benefits to same-sex couples because, by their logic, supporting same-sex couples also meant supporting the spread of HIV and AIDS.
