Driving into a tunnel-sized mouth is sure to grab your attention, not to mention getting you thinking about snacking! This billboard ad was created by Vienna-based advertising agency Demner, Merlicek and Bergmann for Oldtimer, a franchise of Austrian freeway rest stops. The campaign was unleashed in 2007.
While there’s a lot to be said for imaginative billboard designs like these, not all companies are sold on the idea of billboards in general. According to Internet marketing company Marketing Scoop, billboard companies often use three-month contracts, which makes billboards less than ideal for businesses that change their ads more frequently. Marketing Scoop also estimates that people who drive past billboards only have an average of about three seconds to read them. Which isn’t much time to get the message across.
