Infopreneur

An infopreneur is simply an entrepreneur that specializes in gathering and selling information. The term was born and is gaining popularity primarily because of the internet. However, even before the internet, infopreneurs existed and flourished. Examples of infopreneurs that existed before the internet, and still exist to today, include speechwriters, inspirational speakers, audio tapes and CD manufacturers, and news networks.

With the boom of the internet infopreneurs have, as mentioned above, also grown in popularity. This can be attributed to the fact that information is now easier and cheaper to disseminate. All that is needed is a computer, an internet connection, and of course, the information that is to be sold, in whatever form it is to be presented.

The most common medium of information distribution for infopreneurs on the internet include:

Online ads – This appears everywhere on the internet from company websites to blogs and social media sites. They also take varied forms including inline text, banner ads, pay-per-click ads, and online mini-games.

E-books and other online published works – This includes articles in ezines and journals that people either need to purchase or need to subscribe to in order to view. Some can also be accessed for free but only after clicking on an ad.

Downloadable files – Files can contain everything from music to documents. Profit generation can be based on purchases per file or subscription to the site.

Data storage
– People pay for data storage and can be used as an online briefcase or even as a server for web hosting.
