In 1958, American scientist Charles Keeling took direct measurements of carbon dioxide, and soon afterwards he connected the gas with global warming. Keeling’s findings were the first to suggest that human beings could be contributing to the greenhouse effect and global warming. Yet today debates continue to rage over the causes of global warming – and indeed whether it’s even happening at all.
